Tiradores militares de élite

Si bien a nivel popular los términos ingleses "Sharpshooter", "Marksman" o "Expert" (a nivel de tirador) se consideran sinónimos de "Sniper", los tres primeros lo pueden ser entre sí pero no así el último (en la imagen superior un fusil inglés de la marca Accuracy especial para "snipers", al igual que el inferior, americano pero más potente "Barrett").

The main difference between military marksmen and snipers is that marksmen are usually considered an organic part of a fireteam of soldiers (grupo de fusileros) and are never expected to operate independently, whereas snipers usually work alone or in very small teams with independent mission objectives. Snipers are also often tasked with responsibilities other than delivering long-range fire — specifically, conducting reconnaissance and directing coordinates for artillery fire or air strikes. 
Within the military, marksmen are sometimes attached to an infantry fireteam or squad (where they are known as designated marksmen) where they support the squad by providing accurate long-range shots at valuable targets as needed, thus extending the effective tactical reach of the fireteam or squad.

(PS) En la ultima imagen un Sharpshooter de la Guerra Civil americana, con un potente rifle monotiro "Sharps", uno de los primeros de retrocarga y gran calibre. Estos tiradores del ejército de la Union estaban dirigidos por el coronel Hiram Berdan, también ingeniero, inventor y famoso armero.
